Join one of our favorite mending gurus, Sara from Mend & Bend, in this engaging 3 hour workshop, where you'll craft a unique banner or patch using hand-sewing techniques, with a special focus on the beautiful couching stitch. Whether you're looking to embellish your favorite jacket, add a personal touch to home décor, or make a bold statement with a protest banner, this workshop is for you!


Bring an item you'd like to enhance—be it clothing, a pillowcase, or a blank banner—or use the fabric provided. All the basic sewing supplies provided, along with a variety of cords, threads, ropes, and ribbons to help you create a design that’s truly your own. If you have special materials you’d like to use, feel free to bring them along.


No prior sewing experience is needed—this workshop is open to everyone, from beginners to experienced crafters. By the end, you’ll have a personalized, meaningful piece that reflects your style and vision.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Sara Mahowald (she/her) is a self-proclaimed Duchess of Dabble, with a lifelong passion for learning new crafts. From an early age, Sara fell in love with sewing, and that creative spark has led her to explore a myriad of skills, including knitting, crocheting, lino-carving, and punch-needling. Sara’s love for making clothes her own is reflected in her dedication to mending and embellishing garments, turning everyday items into unique, personalized pieces.


As she’s grown, Sara has become more mindful of the environmental impact of fast fashion and waste. Mending and upcycling clothing is one of her ways of reducing waste and promoting sustainability, all while staying true to her creative spirit. Sara brings this passion for thoughtful, hands-on craftsmanship to every workshop she leads, encouraging others to see the beauty in making and mending.
