Adventure awaits with MAA Milepost 35, Denver's newest apartment community in the Central Park neighborhood, which is now leasing! To celebrate, we're teaming up with our friends Ozibu Designs, Fruits of our Labor, and Nicoletta Paints to bring you a DIY night you simply can't miss.

Get ready for a crafty evening at the stylish MAA Milepost 35 Clubhouse on Thursday, May 9th, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. We are partnering with local artists, florists, and designers to bring you an intimate and fun crafting experience. Join us to make your own earrings with Ozibu Designs, learn how to do mini collages with Nicoletta Paints, create Y2K bead bracelets and build your own smashed floral art with Fruits of our Labor. You will also get to indulge in our DIY Mimosa Bar and Charcuterie Station! Plus, meet the incredible MAA Milepost 35 Team and tour the brand-new community up close and personal.

Crafty Hour : Fluid Bears

Create your own version of a Be@rbrick with pour paint techniques. This is a therapeutic and delightfully messy way to spend your Friday night. Your ticket includes (1) 9” bear and (1) mini 2.4” bear key chain and a (1) 10”X8” canvas. Please feel free to bring in any glass jars or items you may want to use the extra paint for! No need to waste it. 😉

You will be required to leave your bear with us overnight to dry. They will be available for pickup at the maker space on Monday May 27th from 4pm - 6pm or we can make separate arrangements.

Fruits of Our Labor will facilitate an activity that will get you creating for the sake of creating and finding inspiration in found, recycled, and natural items and materials. Challenge the expectations of what is typically used to create abstract art and patterns, while accessing your internal creativity through unexpected materials. Fruits of Our Labor co-founder, Tara Forman, will guide you through a quick creative exercise in using your senses to encourage being present the next time you hit a creative block or just need a reset.

Sip + dip during this magical marbling crafty hour. Mercedez Rex will be set up with three DIY dipping stations for you to make groovy handmade gifts or treasured keepsakes.

Design and print a silk bandana or mini silk accessory to add a pop to your fave fit or chill down with a pair of koozies that will make your friends jealous.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS :

Mercedez Rex is an artist and creativity advocate. She believes that everyone is creative and that cultivating creativity is a worthwhile pursuit that leads to emotional resilience and a deeper sense of purpose. Her goal in teaching workshops is to encourage others to tap into their own creativity. She does this first and foremost, by offering guidance and instruction on a craft she is passionate about but more importantly by fostering an environment that values playful experimentation and process over comparison, perfectionism, and fear of failure.

Dive into the world of embroidery with our Sexy Embroidery Class, where creativity meets body positivity! Led by instructor Steffie Notion, participants will learn to set up and plan projects while learning a few basic stitches. Expect sexy and body-positive patterns while you learn a new hobby and discover the art of self expression through needle and thread in this empowering session.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS :

Steffie Notion (she/they) is an acclaimed textile artist renowned for their vibrant embroidery pieces that champion body positivity and sexual empowerment. She has been sewing since she was a young girl, and as an adult she loves mixing the traditional art of embroidery with diverse expressions of human sexuality. Through workshops and community engagements, they ignite essential conversations about embracing one's uniqueness and liberating oneself from societal expectations. Crafty Hour : Four Letter Words

This creative event is about focusing on art as a form of self-care, but with a playful cathartic twist. Palette & Stone’s facilitator is a licensed art therapist so will provide some background (or literature if you prefer not to have a presentation) on why painting and printmaking are beneficial for your mental health, and the participants are guided through a printmaking process using foam plates and carving letters into each one.

Participants can choose any FOUR LETTER WORD, encouraging words to reflect self-care such as rest, sing, play, love-OR a fun release of a favorite curse word!

Participants can make as many prints as they’d like on card stock paper, and go over the letters with sharpie if they’d like. This event is about releasing stress and connecting with one another.

Sarah is a licensed Creative Arts Therapist and professional counselor, as well as creativity workshop facilitator and educator, maker/artist and promoter of all things creative.

Meow Wolf Creature Designer Kate Major started her career making circus costumes for Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus and Cirque Du Soleil but found her true calling making monsters at Meow Wolf. In an effort to minimize the epic waste of the fashion industry, Kate prioritizes using recycled and repurposed materials. Kate lives in Denver with too many pets (1 dog and 3 cats) and likes drinking very fancy tea in her spare time.

Crafty Hour : DIY Cactus Pals [SOLD OUT]

Join us for an opportunity to decorate your very own cactus pal with local artist Nicoleta. The big boi cactus pal is a 16” paper mache figurine that you will have the opportunity to customize with paint, pompoms, glitter, fun decorations and miniature cowboy hats and bandanas. Baby pals are around 7in and will also be available. When you’re finished, take your pal home to add a little western flair to your favorite living space.

Nicoleta is a mixed media artist based in Denver, Colorado. Inspired by her cultural heritage as a Greek American, the whimsy of everyday subjects, and her endless love affair with the American West, Nicoleta's paintings, collages, and wearable art celebrate a vast spectrum of mediums and influences. From vibrant desert landscapes that pop with flora and fauna, to absurdist and otherworldly collages, Nicoleta's canvas blends hues from her travels, daydreams and upbringing that she hopes will invoke joy and curiosity in her viewers. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Nicoleta is a self-taught artist who's been painting and creating for as long as she can remember.

Laugh Your Craft Off is a series of craft workshops where you can make things with artists while comedians tell jokes. We’ve paired artists and crafters with comedians to take your grandma's craft circle to a whole new level. There will be laughs! There will be crafts! So grab yourself a drink and come hang out with us!

This event is 18+.

Immerse yourself in a unique blindfolded air clay workshop. With Fruits of Our Labor as your craftalicious guides, you will experiment with how taking away your sight affects your other senses. Lose yourself in the process, laugh at your mistakes and the jokes provided by Lee Robinson. You will go home with three Picasso-like sculptures, a swanky new silk eye mask, and maybe a story to tell the grandkids.


About The Comedian

Lee Robinson is a Denver-based stand-up comedian, writer, and former middle school chess champion (brag). They’ve been featured on OutTV and co-created and host an ever-sold-out, chaotically queer comedy variety show called Dyketopia.

Crafternoon : Intro to Weaving

In this class you will learn how to create a woven wall hanging start to finish. At the end of the class you will be able to take home your weaving to display in your home! We will begin by learning how to warp a loom and then move on to mastering the different types of woven stitches and weaving techniques. Becky, your instructor will provide demonstrations and then allow you to work on your piece independently while she observes and answer questions. After you have finished your piece we will learn how to tie off loose ends and take the piece off of the loom.

When booking you will have the option to purchase a take home kit + e-course which includes the exact materials shown in the video (a lap loom, a wooden comb, a tapestry needle, a wooden dowel, and six fiber bundles) OR you can purchase supplies needed for the class only.

Repair is a radical act! Making friends while stitching your clothes is even more rad. Come repair your jeans, patch up a sweater, or embellish a piece of your clothing that needs some love. Share your ideas, get feedback, and build community through slow fashion with like-minded humans. Hosts Leah and Sara are experienced in sewing, stitching, clothes modification, darning, dyeing and patchwork and are happy to help you with your project.

An Intentional Sunday Funday

Create your own custom desk calendar while sipping on mocktails + cocktails. Fruits of Our Labor will provide all supplies, instruction and motivational prompts needed. You will leave the experience with a desk calendar that is 100% unique to you and a reusable case to carry your new glue stick and cutting tools. We realize that this activity may take some people longer than two hours. That’s OK! Fill your bag with the supplies and magazine clippings you want and finish at your own pace.

BONUS : "Moonrise Kingdom", directed by the ever intentional Wes Anderson,  will be playing in the background for maximum inspo.
